Man, oh man, bashing government workers is definitely the Teitelbaums’ bread and butter – how many times are they going to center a joke around this stereotype? Yes, in any organization some workers manage to fly under the radar and carry a lighter work load than is appropriate. But my observation of government workers has been that they work very hard, and generally for lower pay (though sometimes better benefits) than they would earn if they worked in the private sector. The salaried employees particularly are likely to put in a heck of a lot more than 40 hours per week. Yes, there are a lot of inefficiencies in government and a lot of that hard work is squandered, but most of the inefficiencies are the fault of politics, the inevitable bureaucracy of any large organization, and the Peter Principle.

With any luck, you might even get a little work from time to time to keep the day interesting.

Government workers work hard at using up thier budget so that it does not get cut next year. Coming up with ways to spend money is a lot of hard work!
