He probably failed the coffee cup part of the interview. I saw an article where some manager in the company would take them to a break room for a cup of during the interview, then back to the office. If the applicant drank the coffee, at the conclusion of the interview, if the applicant didn’t take the cup back to the kitchen, they weren’t hired. If they did, all else being equal, they got the job. It depended on what they did with the coffee cup and cleaning up after themselves.
