If Georgia is ever looking for a side gig, I recommend weather forecasting. I live in the same county where she resides and the forecast for tonight is for heavy snow. Except she got it right about six weeks in advance.

The Thing by John Carpenter is an awesome movie. The prequel made about 10 years ago which explores what happened at the Norwegian base is good as well. I know the original movie is an old 1951 flick but the early ’80s movie starring Kurt Russell and the Quaker Oats Dude who went off the deep end was the best to me.

    Upside down

    Boy, I’m hiding me

    When inside out

    Turned dogs are around

    Instinctively you give to me

    The shelter I need

I cherish the moments with you

    Respectfully I say to thee

You’re there for care and heating

When no one makes me feel like you do

    Upside down

    Dogs don’t turn thee

    Inside out

    And roll round and round

I know that thingie’s harm and I squeal

    One plays the synthesizer surreal

I’m crazy to think that I’m big

As long as the movie continues to flick

There’s a place under the blanket for us

    That’s the bottomline

    (Upside Down / Diana Ross)

    Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

At the Very Good Pyramid Library

Beatrixia: I just cataloged in the classic scroll by Ann-Thology, Stories to Read With a Bunch of Friends Under a Cozy Blanket While Drinking Lots of Hot Chocolate.

Iggy Shipwright: Do you have a favorite?

Bea: Yes. The super scary The Whatever it is That Came and Ate All the Ham.

Iggy: Sounds like fun. But it doesn’t get cold here in Egypt.

Bea: That’s why it’s subtitled Or Around a Campfire With a Cup of Tea and a Scone.

    Iggy: Let’s plan a campfire!

    Sometime Later

Lupinium: This is so much fun! I love the story The Creature From the Green Latrine.

Elvis-Anum: Horror stories are undignified. Although I do like the story We Will Never Be Pleased.

Ora Zed: Ooh, this is my favorite story, They Will Never Tell!

Puckmosis: And now time to find an impossibly tiny box.

Horror movies are the things to see.

Synth music is not too scary.

Weird spreadin’ out so far and wide

Keep “Mary Poppins”, just give me that old dark side.

Under cover’s where I’d rather stay.

Watching “Teacher’s Pet” with Doris Day.

I just adore a laugh or two.

Dah-ling I love you but terror gives me the blues.

    …The gore.

    …No more.

    …Explore.

    …Ignore.

    Turn out the light.

    Good bye, sleep tonight.

    “The Thingie” we are there.

What is the Thingy? Here’s All the Things It Is

You are the creature from a movie

That makes horror flicks groovy and fun!

You are the one that makes us group in

And makes us call for Lupin at once!

A scary thing is what you are

Nightmares we’ll have, that is for sure!

Some time this movie will be over

And then we’ll await that moment when

It’s time to see a horror flick again!

I lost power this week during the ice storm that hit the area. A power line came down in my front yard and arced 3 times and burned my yard. Then the line burned loose from the other pole and took down my service drop too. I finally had power restored after 41 hours and when the power was restored there were some issues, the most important being that the furnace wouldn’t work. Luckily I was able to get a technician her to look at it and after much checking he found a board was bad. Originally he was told there were no replacements available, but I explained about my medical issue (cancer) and he called his boss and found a part 50 miles away and drove to pick it up. When he came back and got the furnace going the house was down to 44 degrees, it took all night to warm back up, but I am thankful for his help. I lost some appliances and all of my food and I am still having some issues with a few circuits not working. I have an electrician who is supposed to call next week, he is really busy. Sadly many people in the area still don’t have power back yet. I actually had 3 Doctor appointments this week about the cancer and one of them had to examine me in the dark with a flashlight because she had lost her power. I don’t really need to be dealing with the power issues and the medical issues and having to replace appliances too. Sorry to vent, but I need to release some feelings.

Apparently someone once wrote a story from the perspective of the Thing. It was absolutely horrified by life on this planet, and our inability to reshape and meld ourselves on a whim. From its point of view, everything it did was an attempt to save us.

Georgia just posted: “Today’s strip celebrates John Carpenter’s ‘The Thing’, one of my favorite horror movies of all time. It’s a great winter watch! Trevor’s Woman and I would put it on in New England deep freezes, and the Man and I watch it throughout the winter now. I tried to highlight the soundtrack in particular, which is terrific. Iggy feels like he’d be a synth nerd like me. NOT A KIDS’ MOVIE! PLEASE, if your kids love this strip, just let the adorable kittens describe it here for now. DON’T let them watch ‘The Thing.’ However, it’s an excellent horror movie for grown-ups, if you enjoy horror! (Although, hilariously in that “why did our parents let us watch that??” theme of the 1980s, I used to watch a weirdly tame tv edit of ‘The Thing’ on ‘Dialing for Dollars’ with my Nana Dee Dee when I was around first grade. THE 1980s, MAN! A tv edit of ’The Poseidon Adventure’ was another Baby Georgia ‘Dialing for Dollars’ favorite, lol.)”

Serious post from Georgia: "The despicable remarks by Scott Adams have been hitting the news all weekend. I’m repulsed by the things he said, I’ll leave them in the articles and news stories—but it’s heinous. Like many readers, I’m relieved his strip is being dropped from many newspapers in the wake of the tired old manipulative rhetoric he’s trying to serve up as something new. His grim and mean view of the world and people is exhausting. You’re going to see a space open up in your local newspapers in the coming weeks. This is a chance to let your newspaper editors know what comics you’d like to see added to your paper! There are so many great new comics right now. ’Crabgrass,’ ‘Heart of the City,’ ‘Wallace the Brave,’ ‘Phoebe and her Unicorn,’ the new ’Nancy’, and humbly my own ‘Breaking Cat News’! I’ve have a hard time getting into bigger newspapers, several of us have. I hear all the time “newspapers don’t want to take a chance on a new cartoonist.” I’m hoping taking a chance on the new cartoonists might be looking pretty good this weekend after taking so many chances on Scott Adams. We all work hard to bring hilarious new stories and characters to life. We WANT to be in your newspapers, so much! Our book sales are great, our book reviews online reflect that. Kids are reading our books in their school libraries and EPIC (the online e-book program for schools) right now! We could bring in new subscribers with kids, if newspapers were delivering brand new strips from the comics they’re reading to their door every morning!I was born in 1981. The movies now are sequels. The tv shows are reboots. Many of the comics in newspapers now were in the paper when I was born. I’m starved for new characters and stories, and I’m not alone. A whole generation of newspaper readers are missing their own cartoonists! I love the classics. I wish newspapers would expand their comics section.
