Okay Elvis, calm down. Tommy is quizzical and Bea is startled, but neither is particularly concerned. I’m sure they’re quite safe, in any case. (Not that he would, but Tommy could easily take them all down by himself, and Bea has had hunting lessons: https://www.gocomics.com/breaking-cat-news/2016/05/09 )

O.T. from Georgia on facebook: “I’m delighted to announce I have an agent now! I’m officially represented by Shena Wolf at KO Media Management! Long time readers may recognize Shena as ‘Breaking Cat News’ original editor, who originally reached out to sign me to syndication and has been there for many of the BCN stories over the years. Some of you will remember our video interview from the 2020 Reuben Awards, where we discussed the start of BCN and the comic. I’ve never had an agent before; when I found out they were taking this next step, I knew they were who I trusted the most to represent my work! There’s too many exclamation points in my announcement, but I’m very excited to be working with Shena again, and looking forward to it!”

OT— Samantha (pictured) crossed the Rainbow Bridge yesterday. She was having trouble walking so I called the vet and they let me bring her right in. He said she had had a stroke and was probably in kidney failure so it was time to let her go. Her buddy Smokey only made it to age 12 so he’s been waiting for her a long time. This was not unexpected and she had a good life so I’m trying not to feel bad, but here I am at 2:00 am. RIP Sammy (2004-2023).

    Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

    At the Library at Afar

Violet-Ifa: So Trevor-Hotep is growing some extra special summer vegetables, and we need help from the Procurers’ Guilds to carry them to Thomios’ kitchen.

Beaver Lee Cleary: I’ll see if I can rally some help from the Beaver’s Guild.

Vi: That would be much appreciated. Talpi and his mole’s guild is contacting the Groundhog’s Guild as well.

Bev: I think that would help. Maybe we could arrange some friendly competition.

Vi: Do you have any ideas?

Bev: Let me think about a bit.

    Sometime Later

Bev: I think I have it. What do you think of this papyrus flyer?

Beavers versus Groundhogs. Come join us for a competition to see who can transport the most veggies. Winner gets a gold trophy courtesy of the Artesans and a special dinner prepared by Thomios and his crew.

Vi: Just the thing. I think Iron Glove will be glad to create a trophy, and nothing pleases Thomios more than preparing a special meal.

A privateer is a private person or ship that engages in maritime warfare under a commission of war. Because of the high level of piracy and impressment, merchant ships where armed. A sovereign or delegated authority issued commissions, also referred to as a letter of marque, during wartime.

Privateers… that’s Pirates that are conscribed or contracted to a country.

Edward Teach (Blackbeard) was contracted by England to Pirate on French and Spanish traders.

Jean Lafitte was a French pirate and privateer who operated in the Gulf of Mexico in the early 19th century.

Sir Francis Drake was the most famous privateer and one of the most notable sailors in the history of the world. Captain Drake played the most significant role in creating a role-model for pirates in the Golden Age of Pirates.

Avast ye mateys…no telling what these Mole Bucanners hold true, but I don’t believe the mouse team would have lead you to your doom….so I think they are just taking stock of you now. Hold your ground, and any ill-will from your tongues and you’re sure to see the light of morning.

    Fun facts about moles:

Male moles are called “boars”, females are called “sows”. A group of moles is called a “labour” or “labor”, although they are rarely seen in groups as they are very solitary animals, generally coming together only for their mating season. Baby moles are pups. New born moles are hairless. A mole nest is called a fortress. Moles can dig tunnels at a rate of up to 15 feet per hour. Although moles may resemble mice and rats, they are not rodents. Instead they are insectivores – more closely related to bats.
