When I was in my 30’s I had a pretty good exercise program going, it included a power walk and my plan was to build it up to a jog and then a run as time went on. When I thought I was ready I tried jogging my power walk, within 2 days my ankles locked up on my and I could barely walk (later on I developed a bad case of arthritis in my ankles, but I didn’t realize that was going to happen at the time) after I recovered I went back to power walking my route and never stepped it up from there.
Eat sanely. Find a good gym. Get friends who will keep you on the right path. Then get a stomach virus, eat almost nothing for a week so your stomach shrinks. When you feel better, eat little meals and healthy snacks so you don’t stretch your stomach out, and you’ll feel full sooner. Worked for me.

Don’t forget shin splints. And how you would look in skintight lycra.
