Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for April 19, 1989
Transcript:
Hobbes: Here. Drinking from the far side of a glass is supposed to cure hiccups. Calvin: The (hic) far side of (hic) the glass? (hic) How do I (hic) do that? Hobbes: You have to bend your head way over. Calvin: Oh (hic) I see. (hic) Thanks. Now I've got the hiccups and water up my nose. Hobes: I think most hiccup cures were really invented for the amusement of the patient's friends.

I think so, too. The only two really reliable ways I’ve found are to hold your breath, or hold your breath while drinking as much water as possible. And even those are not 100% effective.

I look up hard, stretch my neck as much as possible and force my throat open WIDE. Either a lump sinks or a bubble rises. Poof! hick ups be gone!.
