    This really shows Waterson’s gift of vocabulary and the adult oriented nature of his post 1990 comics. I love Calvin’s look of consternation in the third panel!

    No, he has a good vocubulary and saw no reason in condescention. Why use a phrase consisting of smaller words, when you know one that has exactly the meaning and nuance you’re attempting to convey?In this strip, he’s enjoying a chance to have some fun playing with the sounds of words. “Peripatetic,” incidentally, means “nomad.”

    He had a great vocabulary, and infused it into others! I looked that word up because of this comic, and years later when hearing it in a more scholarly context I knew what it was thanks to Calvin….. not that I let on at the time…
