Perhaps it’s just as well that adult Calvin didn’t demand a paternity test on that baby/rabbit…

Mr. Bun would be a tasty little tidbit for Hobbes.

WISE FOOL You would think so, but SHE starts her term of endearment with a vowel, the first one as a matter of fact.

Maybe this is further proof that Suzie is a budding INFJ (and thus able to take her imagination in two tiers) and Calvin is a budding ENFP (and thus unwilling and possibly unable to do so).

Hmmm…why is it that Calvin’s imagination is much more vivid when Hobbes is involved.? Is it because Hobbes IS Calvin’s imagination and he can only have a disjointed, reality-based mind game without him? Analysis, please?

I hated playing with dolls, when I was a child, it was no life in it! I didn’t like it!

Becuase Mr. Bun is icky. And I have to use all those teacups. And….. Susie just won’t understand.

I LOVE the older Calvin and Suzie!!

I remember when I first saw this strip in the paper - first couple of panels, I thought that they had the wrong strip under the C&H title.

Lew, I am guessing that’s - airhead.

(Not that you are, of course, but that’s the euphemism we use in our house.)

Tigers and Rabbits? We have a real problem here.

It’s simple, Susie … because Hobbes is real and Mr. Bun isn’t!

Besides, Hobbes doesn’t “play house” and pretend to be a baby! He and Calvin go on wagon rides down dangerous hills, play Calvinball, and go on long walks where they have intellectually stimulating conversations about God and the Universe, etc. Probably all Mr. Bun likes to do is just have boring tea parties and be carried around like an infant!

This is my favorite Calvin&Hobbes of all time. I remember when I first saw this strip in the newspaper, I bypassed it because it looked so much like a “serious” comic. Only when I couldn’t find my favorite comic did I go back to the front page to discover it!

Calvin is still at his “i hate girls ” time of his . At his age I was the same, and had a teddy bear for my best friend (mascot) :-)

Me thinks as an adult, Calivin will always be “IT’S ALL ABOUT ME” type…………….

Wouldn’t it be great to see Calvin & Susie as teenagers? Wonder if they’d be going steady or fighting.

Suzy is mixing up characters too much for Calvin’s taste. Hobbes is a tiger always - in Calvin’s imagination he is grown up size but when others are around he is still the same. The result is that Calvin stays the same. No need to change or grow up. He can be as irrational as he pleases.

And Suzy wants him to pretend that he is a grown up now and Mr. Bun is small. That is asking too much from Calvin.

In one of the Calvin and Hobbes books, Bill Watterson wrote that this particular strip was one of the most enjoyable he did. He always had an admiration for the Rex Morgan/Mary Worth style…

I agree: this was a favorite Calvin & Hobbes–but then, there were so many favorites! I think that Calvin disliked playing with Mr. Bunn because, as Hobbes once said, “Mr Bunn seems comatose.” (after a tea)

It would be interesting to read the school psychologist’s analysis of Calvin….

I have always liked this episode of C&H, except that I would strongly dispute Suzie’s denigration of Hobbes. There is nothing dumb about him. TIGERS RULE!

Bill Watterson is an absolute genius! Talent beyond compare! I love how he can draw in the “serious cartoon” manner and then revert back to our familiar “Calvin and Hobbes” style. And even within that, I find it amazing how he depicts Hobbes as real-life to Calvin but as an actual stuffed toy to the rest of the world. The man is amazing!

I’m so happy to be able to follow the adventures of C+H here on GoComics.com because I really miss Bill Watterson in the newspapers.
