Teachers in the US have the “rule of 90”. If your age and your years of experience as a teacher add up to 90, you get a nice retirement package. This applies even if you were promoted to VP or some other higher office in the same district.

HAD to be an accident. His feet don’t even reach the floor, so he couldn’t have been pushing back hard enough to upset the applecart.

Calvin is disappointed. He was hoping Miss Wormwood would fall for it.

Usually, when I post a Peanuts strip here, it was published before Bill Watterson drew the Calvin and Hobbes of the day. But here is a Peanuts strip that was published in 1996, six years after today’s Calvin and Hobbes.This is from near the end of Charles Schulz’s career, when he was running out of fresh ideas for many of his recurring themes, so that he sometimes experimented with new things. Incidentally, for those who read the little copyright labels on the strips, today’s Calvin and Hobbes says that it was published in 1994. It is actually from 1990. The 1994 date is from when it was rerun during Bill Watterson’s second sabbatical.

I work in an elementary school. Yes, kids do sometimes fall out of their chairs by accident. They get so intent on what they’re doing and they lean the chair up on two legs and suddenly KLUNK! they’re on the floor.

Reminds me of the day Margaret Petersen tied Billy Smith’s shoelaces together and waited until Mrs. Wolfe called him up to the board to work a math problem. (True story!)

I honestly don’t know. That’s how my HS newspaper described it when they had an article about our Principal retiring.
