I wonder if Calvin’s eaten these boxes all in the one setting? He’s not so sneaky as to just throw the boxes’ contents in the bin (needs to make sure parents don’t find out!)??
While Calvin is working his way through four boxes of cereal, Mom could have easily just cut the proofs off the box and let Calvin eat the four boxes of cereal at a normal pace.
If we kids told our mom we wanted to collect certain box tops to get a certain thing, it was a sure bet she’d stop buying the cereal in question. Later on, the local supermarkets only seemed to get the marked boxes in when the special offer was just about to end. I always wondered if the manager of the market was in cahoots with the parents.
He could have just taken the cereal out of the boxes (its in plastic bags, not just dumped in the boxes), cut the seals out and sent them in. Put the bags back in the boxes and taken his time eating the cereal.
I always had a hard time getting through a bowl of sweetened cereal. I did better with cereal when Mom started getting me the less sweetened stuff. My favorite were “Team Flakes.” Anybody remember “Stacks?”
When I was young, many of my mother’s group were smokers. Once, one lady left behind a pack. We all wanted to try smoking of course. My mother (a very smart lady) told us we could each smoke one, but once we started we had to smoke it all. We did. We were very sick. A few of us never smoked again, and the rest stayed away from it for many years.

What I don’t get is if these companies need proof of purchase, how come they don’t take receipts?

Did Calvin check when the offer expires? I would hate for him to eat all that and then notice he missed a deadline.

It hasn’t occurred to Calvin to simply cut the tops off and send them in.

Our mom used to take off the tops and send them in, then put the cereal into an empty flour container.

I remember drinking up a whole container of Ovaltine to send in for something from Captain Midnight. I never ever drank that stuff again.

It’s always amazed me how much effort some people will go to in an attempt to avoid work.
