Maybe, Hobbes wouldn’t detect Calvin if he changed his clothes once in a while.

Susie should split the quarter with Hobbes.

Done in by Calvin’s bad habits… again!

Hobbes always reminded me of Tigger when I was a kid. Especially whenever he went “Woo hoo hoo!”, which I would always read in Tigger’s voice.

If Calvin routinely took his baths, would his so-called bad smell be less triggering to Hobbes?

Susie gives Hobbes good smoochies and hugs. What does Calvin expect?

Be happy, Calvin. He loves ONLY you!!

Only you, you are my destiny!!

Hobbes should’ve given Susie a big hug.

Now hopefully Mr. Bun doesn’t pounce on Susie when she gets home.

Did Susie get a smoochie?

I’ve always wanted to know what at outside observer see when Hobbes tackles Calvin at the door like that

Calvin should have smelt a rat instead of getting angry @ Hobbes.

Way to go, Hobbes!!

I especially love the “bad smell” comment.

Maybe NOW Calvin with take baths without fussing about it!!

And Susie—don’t spend that money all in one place, LOL!!

Kapow! The irony is, you wanted to go tiger hunting in the first place………

It was thirty years ago this month that I finally accepted that the living Hobbes isn’t part of Calvin’s imagination. Today’s strip was another step towards that but the clincher was when I read Bill Watterson’s comment “I suspect he’s more real than any kid could make up.”

I know I have quoted that comment several times over the past six years but I think Watterson summed it up brilliantly with those words.

I’d love to see this one played out in real life.

So much to enjoy about this toon. The art in the next to last panel is glorious. Extended Hobbes. Bent door and blowing curtains. Loss of shoes reminiscent of Charlie Brown. The splat and stars. The huge kapow and Calvin’s winding scream. And Hobbes’ crack about the bad smell is too funny.Like it. Save it. Share it

If I was Susie, I’m not sure I’d do Calvin a favor if he was on fire and needed me to extinguish the flames. (I apologize for how cruel that sounds.) Hobbes’s last line gives a good reason for Calvin to bathe more.

Bill Watterson has an imagination that resides in many of us but only Bill has the special ability to express

The difference between a booby-trap and an ambush is control. A tiger is an ambush, not a booby-trap.

It’s always the smell that betrays us.

Hobbes is off to get smooches.

I hope Susie is still around to witness this.

And he doesn’t usually smell of “quarter”. :)

Oh yeah, Hobbes? Then why have you been fooled by decoys in the past?

I bet Calvin had quite a bit of explaining to do to his mom on why she heard Susie say “I’m home!” I’m also reminded of how whenever I wear a fursuit or other similar costume, my dog can always tell it’s me by my smell (and it isn’t really a bad smell, either).

They probably have different voices too.

With a quarter she can buy 2 comic books

I can see it and feel it in the last panel.

For a stuffed toy, Hobbs sure plays rough.

Nothing happened to Susie of course because HOBBES IS A FIGMENT OF CALVIN"S SCHIZOID IMAGINATION.

Hobbes wants to smack Susie, all right, but in a different way. SMOOCHES!!!

Calvin sure set himself up for when they get married later in life. Now she knows how to play him.
