It’s always the present, Calvin

Unless it’s summer.

The present doesn’t seem too fond of you either, Calvin.

Any of you have a semi-favorite season of the year and why so?

Here, rake some leaves, it’s character building……

But Mom and Dad hate winter. It means you-know-who will be indoors all the time.

Calvin will grow up to be one of those people who is always “fleeing forward” to the next job, the next country, the next relationship/group of friends. They can only commit to things for two or three years max, then they’re off again to pastures new. They swear eternal friendship when they leave, but after a week or two they don’t respond to texts or emails.

Yeah, present reminds him too much of roll call at school.

Present company included.

A good line for Dad would have been, “Okay, Calvin. We’ll see you get no presents for your birthday or for Christmas.”

so much for mindfulness and living in the present…

I wish it was winter, too. Then Calvin can make those snow goons that drive his stuck-up father nuts!!

The only present I didn’t like was clothing at Christmas. Santa should not be giving a young child underwear, shirts and sweaters.

I’m with Cal. The present at my current age doesn’t offer the same exciting possibilities as 80 years ago when I was his age.

I used to wish I were older. Now I’d settle for being 60 again.

There’s a poem I don’t quite recall from my childhood, where someone is complaining about each season while it’s here and then missing it as soon as it’s gone. Can’t find a web search that comes up with the one I’m thinking of, but I’d know it if I saw it.

I think we’re going to have our fall this week in Florida panhandle. It’s supposed to go into 30s.

The weather guessers say Autumn will arrive Friday. Last weekend, we set record high temperatures.

Winter is gonna hit a lot of places today and Giles, WI got 18" of snow already.

Calvin’s on to something there. It’s “now” he has a problem with!

I thought Calvin liked presents.

I understand that. When I was young, I used to ride my bike all over town. No matter where I was, I wanted to be somewhere else. Good exercise I suppose.

I only like the present at Christmas. :-)

*Hands Calvin a boy-sized rake. Get to work and help Dad…

Dad should’ve said: Well, we can skip Autumn then but you won’t have Halloween…

The past is only a memory. The future is only a dream. Only the present moment exists.

He likes presents on Xmas.

I actually prefer autumn and spring over winter and summer.

Autumn is fleeting.

Followed by months & months of snow, slush, cold weather, the flu, etc.

Then they won’t have to leave one under the tree.

The irrationality of Calvin. His logic is that he can never enjoy the moment.

If you don’t like fall, wait till you get a drought!

This reminds of when we buried my father last summer. It was during that terrible heatwave that hit the Western states. My sister said she wished Dad had died in November. Except if that were the case, she’d be wishing he died in the spring. Life is like that.

This has been my husband recently. He just cannot accept that Fall did not begin immediately after the equinox. I have tried to explain the concept of an “Indian summer” but it falls on “I hate this extended summer” ears.

Come to Michigan, it’s been winter this week in the UP
