Transcript:
Saleswoman: How about this gorgeous necklace for your mother? Cathy: Oh, no. She'd say I spent too much money on it, and couldn't enjoy it. Saleswoman: How about this lovely cashmere sweater? Cathy: Oh, no. She'd say it's too nice to use and keep it wrapped up in a drawer. Cathy: I'm willing to spend any amount...but for Mom to be happy, the gift has to look inexpensive and ordinary, without-of course-looking cheap and ugly...Also, in spite of the fact that I've spent a week shopping for it, it can't look as though it took a lot of time to find. Saleswoman: Say what we will about men, mothers are always our biggest challenge.
