Barista: Two coffees. $7.00 total. Have a nice day. Cathy: Thank you. Mom: There's no coffee in my cup. Barista: The coffee's over there. Mom: We'd like some in our cups, please. Barista: It's self-serve. Help yourself. Mom: We paid $3.50 each to pour our own coffee in a styrofoam cup?? Barista: That's what everyone does. Mom: People have forgotten they're supposed to get something for their money! They're used to overpaying for nothing! What's wrong with everyone?? Demand service! Raise expectations! What's it going to take to wake people up??! Barista: How about a cup of coffee? Clerk: It's right over there.

And they also have a “tip jar” for handing you the cup. Except that I don’t give a tip for hardly any service.

Usually in such cases you can get refills for free.

I worked in Hospitality for years; no tips for counter service!

I could go on about this one, but I think I’ll leave it at a nice, trusty …
[Eye-roll]
I must say that I’m totally on Cathy’s mom’s side here, though.
HI, MOM. Happy Sunday, Clan.

At my university, there’s a common area in the Health and Human Services building where you pour and mix your own hot drink for under $2. $3.50 is a bit much for do it yourself._______________________________________________Happy Sunday, Clan.

I don’t mind getting my own drink from “the machine over there” because then I can get as many refills as I want for as long as I’m there. What’s not to love about that?!? :-)
Meanwhile, it’s nice to see Cathy’s mother leave her apron at home for a change while she’s out in public with her daughter . . . even if it’s just to have a cup of over-priced coffee! ;-)
Hi, rgcviper!
Hello and Happy Sunday, fellow “Cathy” fans. Hope everyone’s been having a really nice weekend so far! :-)

$3.50 is cheap for self-serve if you’re at an airport.
