Sounds good to me! I used to save my yearly two-week vacation days until everyone else had theirs! One year, I took a bus to Disneyland…it was rather cool out, but hardly any people! A great time to go! ;)

Can someone explain the concept of ‘personal days’ please? Other countries don’t have them – we simply have a certain number of vacation days (typically more than in the US) and public holidays (not Thanksgiving, obviously!). So in this scenario the first two people would need to use vacation days (unless genuinely sick of course).

Sounds like they work for the Canadian government. They start with 2 or 3 weeks vacation, then get 1 week personal/family days (to be used if your kid is sick). Then they get a set amount of sick days. Technically the sick days are supposed to be used when you are sick, but there is a culture of using them as vacation days. They also accumulate from year to year, so I know some people who have months of sick leave saved up. I think the personal days do not accumulate so you are encouraged to use them up or lose them. I am private sector so I don’t know in exact detail how it works. I only get a set number of weeks of vacation and sick time if I have a doctors note. This information is what I gather from listening to my public servant friends talk.

I’m just happy that I get both Thursday and Friday off. It’s the only four-day weekend I get all year! :)
