I’ve played on A, B,C & D league teams. B & C seemed the more intense. The Ds were there for the beer and the camaraderie. The As were very calm–especially when they were playing me.

my adult experience is as a hockey referee and occasional player (in the beer leagues). when guys would be looking for a light for their smokes i’d always answer, “I’m an athlete. I drink.”

the worse a recreational athlete is (caliber wise) the more over-competitive he seems to be (at least in my experience).
