Our kids don’t study when they are in school, and our teachers are so busy trying to teach the standardized tests that we no longer teach our children to think. And don’t get me started on phonics. People claim our children are going to be lousy spellers because of texting, It is actually the fault of phonics that our children can’t spell. The way I see it, in another 50 years the dictionary spellings will be replaced by the phonetic spellings so that the children of this present generation can be spelling things correctly.
Ironically some schools are having to actually cut the # of days due to budget shortfalls from the Great Recession. Can’t say we’ll be better for it with a lot of latchkey kids having more downtime & scarcity of jobs

Some schools are doing better by starting classes an hour later, and not making up the time. It’s not the quantity of education, but the quality.
