When I was a kid, I actually worried about this kind of thing happening.

Me, too. I went so far as to jump over the last step so the escalator wouldn’t eat me.

Forgive me if I do not find today’s comic funny at all. Many years ago, in Cherry Hill, NJ, a man and his 2 children were killed (fell into the gears) at the local race track escalator and died a horrible death.

evelyndimartino, how tragic. I agree with you, this is not funny. I thought of all the little children that have had their toes and/or feet severed.

They must be very little, then. Those openings are less than 1/8”. Urban legend time, anyone?

I don’t know if the New Jersey thing is an urban legend but, I know that there was a problem with the type of shoes the little tots were wearing. I think they were crocs. True, it is a little space but, if you’re a 2 or 3 years old and your shoe gets caught, it will pull your foot in that little space one way or another.

I also jumped off before the last step, even today some 60 yrs later, now that is a life long fear. but safer then elevators.
