News reports have it that, although Norm was never heard from again, citizens say they may have actually spotted him leading the charge on a local restaurant trash dumpster!
Decades ago, carpenter ants were eating the roof of my parent’s back porch; you could actually hear them chewing sometimes. They dropped excavated sawdust out of a hole in the ceiling. When the exterminators took a look, it turned out the hole was several feet from the actual nest. It was as if they were trying to hide the nest’s actual location.
Recent experience with home inspector at a century-old house. I was with son-in-law as the inspector did his thing inside, outside, on the roof, etc. At one point the inspector donned a head-to-toe suit with respirator, which gave him not only a funny look but a bizarre sound.
Perfect timing: my daughter arrives at the house at precisely the moment this inspector comes up out of the basement, talking.
Daughter was, to put it mildly, startled. As in, had to be scraped off the ceiling.

Norm will become one with the colony, adopt their ways, find a mate, have a few larvae, etc… ever since he was a child he dreamed of bugging out.
