Hurricane Hattie O'Hara: That new rowing machine you got is no fun at all!
Brutus: Well, it's for working out. It's not meant for pleasure!
Hurricane Hattie O'Hara: No kidding! It doesn't even float!
When my gym had rowing machines, they had screens with a rowing pacer and us pictured on them, in which I imagined myself and the pacer rowing in the Detroit or Hudson Rivers; there were tall buildings in the background. We could fall behind the pacer, keep pace with him, or row faster than him. Tips would flash on the screen, in one upper corner, like Keep your back straight, or Use your legs. Those rowing workouts were timed, and if anyone finished ahead of the pacer, recorded applause by a crowd would be played. I even remember now how these electric rowing machines played rowing sounds, in sync with our actual rowing motions.
