What nettles me is when an anonymous caller asks how I am today. What do you care and why would I tell you? It’s too personal to spill to a stranger. I know various cultures ask some version of this, as a politeness, but I find it intrusive coming from someone I’ve never heard of.

Almost like when someone says, “May I ask you a question?”
You can just answer, “No.”
… or you could say, “You just did.”
You could ask them, “Would you like to ask another question?”

Pestering people on a phone should be a punishable crime.

The days I lasted as a telemarketer (for a summer job) were in the single digits. I couldn’t get out of there fast enough.

ANY response gets you on the “chump list”. You’ll be subject to death by survey by every financially curious company on the Internet.

People who called me for surveys or sales calls were usually sorry they called by the time I was done with them
I dont have my own phone anymore, better for everyone that way
Now if you want to talk to me you have to call my wife, good luck with that
