I remember when they would close the bars on election day, I guess to keep people from making bad decisions. These days are a good excuse to leave them open all night.
There will be municipal elections in Iceland on May 14. A lot of people here in ReykjavĆk, myself included, will be voting for the party most likely to get the current mayor out of office. I understand from the news that it was similar in the recent French presidential elections. People didnāt vote for Macron, but mainly against Le Pen.
Does anybody want a job that is completely thankless, absolutely disgusting due to the majority of people you have to associate with, and its requirements can meet no oneās expectations?
me neither. so the only people that run seem to be the idealists ā who eventually are completely overwhelmed by the hardness of the task of changing bad to good, and many give in to the rot -ā OR -āā the narcissist/power-hungry that the other side hates for their narcissism IF they donāt agree with how they vote/lead or their ruthlessness to obtain power and destroy the system (which is the excuse each side blames the other of doing to obtain their power) Are there people who could and would do a better job? absolutely. I have known and talked to many over the years. Will they ever come forward? I would say no simply because those who hate, manipulate, and lie, that control ābehind the scenesā and yes there are many in that position in politics, have the capability to make life very miserable for anyone who does something they donāt like. OH NO!!! too early for this, not enough coffee -ā- my brain is sprung for the rest of today.
I recall the same gag being used about a decade later by The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Murray tells Mary that he voted for a specific official (played, I believe, in wonderfully dim-witted fashion by Bill Daily) because he was a Mo.
Mary: A Mo?
Murray: You know ā eenie, meenie, miney, mo. When I canāt make up my mind, I always vote the straight Mo ticket.

I usually flip a coin while Iām voting. Not to choose anything, just to make onlookers wince.

The really disturbing thing about this comic is that itās from 1964, and things havenāt improved at all in those 58 years.

I donāt know why they do that. Given the slate of candidates, who would want to make that choice sober?
