when I was young, we typically called adult neighbors by their first name when speaking TO them, but by their last name (and title) when speaking ABOUT them

the only real exceptions were teachers and the occasional person who preferred the more formal address

Better than Bro! I hired a painter and he called me Bro, I said I’m not your brother. He said sorry Buddy, I said I don’t know you, we’re not buddies. Finally we settled on my name

My parents taught me to respect others. Regardless. It’s the true Christian way. All others just hypocrites.

Lighten up people. Nicknames are great for old folks who need some time to recall your real name.

Not sure that’s an improvement of any sort. However, it is your and your wife’s fault for not establishing name parameters earlier on. That being the situation, the only way to correct it is to forcefully correct it by telling her so or calling her a name she can’t stand until she changes. OR since you haven’t done it earlier on, just live with it. If there’s any justice in this world, she will have 5 children just like herself later in life……

Here’s a thought, something you might want to try, maybe you tell her the respectful way of addressing you, it’ll pi$$ her off and she’ll go away.

Hurricane Hattie is a courteous girl but I wouldn’t call Brutus a “dude”, he’s not fashionably dressed. Brutus is not Canadian, is he?…

“…dude” refers to well-dressed, foppish Americans."
