Posse’s are still possible. I haven’t checked other states, but the Texas Code of Criminal Procedures says that “Whenever a peace officer meets with resistance in discharging any duty imposed upon him by law, he shall summon a sufficient number of citizens of his county to overcome the resistance; and all persons summoned are bound to obey.” (provides no penalty) But this authority has been repealed effective January 2025.
Me too, Frank; in fact, until somewhere in the ’70s, we all watched a lot of cowboy movies! From the silent era until then, that was far and away the dominant genre.
It kind of bugs me when people claim they’ve never been summoned for jury duty. I’ve been summoned for jury duty 8 times, which includes reporting to the courthouse 5 times and serving on two juries (serving as the jury foreman the second time). It’s time to let somebody else enjoy the experience.

Thinking Gramps should’ve spent more time around more saloons.
