Yeah, but it was worth a shot. The Dears need to furnish you with a nice, soft cozy doggy bed in front of the fireplace so you can snuggle there while Dear snuggles in his comfy chair. Everyone’s happy.

How can he be immune to basset appeal? The droopy comfort, the eyes….

Sorry Fred, if you were a cat you’d probably get away with it, but when one of my kitties steals my chair I usually pick her up and hold her, and sit down with her so she’s on my lap. She doesn’t complain about that.

That happened a lot before they invented TV remote controls and sometimes still does when you get a dead battery in your remote control.

Not just a comfy chair … Tis the scent of a master that the chair holds. Hard for a dog to resist that ;-)

Poor Fred, Mr Dear is not in a giving mood today :(

By the scowl on Mr. Dear’s face, I’d say he was none too pleased with Fred stealing his seat.

Something ventured, nothing gained

He’s just keeping the seat warm for Mr. Dear.

At least you tried, Fred. His lap would be a good compromise, but Mr. Dear seems a bit sour. Oh well, not too bad as-is.

You’ll be fine. I was waiting for him to sit down with you behind him on the chair!

Needs a wider chair.

If that were my dog, the dog would be on my lap and the newspaper would be on the floor, ready to be read once my dog was elsewhere, sleeping. Sadly, I found the one dog in the world who does not sit on laps. My guess is that because she was a hunter for her first 6 years that she wasn’t held on laps in her first years.

When my wife or I would sit down on our sofa, Monster the Mighty Moose would plod over, all 150 lbs., climb up in our laps, make a few happy growls, and fall asleep.

Then so would my wife or I.
