Every time Lila’s mom enters the picture, it explains so much.

So much for her doing more in her call center.

That is classic Jewish mother guilt (I get to say this cause I have one)… still, how awful :(

My mother called me a couple of years ago and said “You know that new job your father started? Well, a large piece of equipment fell on his head. He had to get sixteen stitches this morning.” “WHAT?!” I freaked. “Is he still in the hospital?”“No,” my mom said. “He’s back at work, of course. I just wanted to keep you informed. Nothing to worry about. Actually, he might work late because he’s irritated that being in the ER took so much time.”Admittedly, that’s quite different from a stroke.

When did Lila convert to Catholisism? I thought in the Jewish faith if Mother is Jewish so is the Chid. BTW Nice Phone call, Mom.

Just FYI: Among the four branches of Judaism, Orthodox and Conservatives recognize only the mother-to-child Jewish lineage structure. Reconstructionist and Reform Jews recognize either the mother OR father’s Jewish lineage for the child.

That’s terrible! Not a story line that will be fun to read, but good to have from time to time so that we can count our blessings.-——————Thank you for that SequelMan8. My sister (raised Christian) married a Jewish guy, and although they celebrate Christmas (mostly for the presents I think), they seem to be raising their kids as Jewish. I knew about the mother-to-child lineage, so I was confused until now.

As the author of How to be a Jewish Mother pointed out, one doesn’t have to be Jewish or a mother to qualify – its a behavior pattern, not ethnos, religion, or gender.
