@Grey PiperI hate to burst your bubble, but my husband and I tried to pack it away but things always came up that needed to be taken care of and it all went for that. And now that we’re down to one person bringing home the paycheck, it’s been even harder. Not everyone has/had a nice high paying cushy job to sock away for retirement. People who had been laid off or forced into early retirement (like me) and couldn’t find work, but were old enough to, applied for early SS benefits so they can at least pay their bills. By next year, I’ll be doing the same thing. Maybe we might be able to put something away then, so when my husband eventually retires, we won’t be too bad off. Not all elderly are that well off.
