It bears repeating – this character, Pete Reynolds-Roberts, is this strip’s version of Stan Lee. As he makes reference to in this strip, he was stated as being the highest paid comic book writer in the country. He is a millionaire, or at least has earned millions. There are no stakes here.
Also, the prior Halloween strips with Pizza Box Guy established that person as a partner and that the business proposal was already underway (www.gocomics.com/crankshaft/2023/11/02 ), so today’s strip makes zero sense in multiple ways.
Next, on the latest episode of the MOST BELIEVABLE REALITY SHOW EVER, “Kevin Feige Quits the MCU to Buy a Closed Rust Belt Ohio Papa John’s”! This week’s is titled “I’M GONNA HUUURL!!!”
Mindy, you’re going down the path towards a horrible union like Les/Cayla and Liz/Anthony. Drop the ornaments. Walk away. Never go back. Never look back.
Mindy, be honest with him, because this is a major decision that will affect the rest of your life. And that also applies to your decision to accept his marriage proposal.
We already know Mindy does NOT want to marry Pete and thinks his buying Montoni’s – while going into partnership with some whack job who dresses in pizza boxes and whose identity they don’t even know, no less – is a major mistake. But apparently Mindy has been raised to simply go along and not disrupt things, even if she ends up miserable.
This is a quaint, cute strip that doesn’t deserve the constant barrage of negative comments it receives. Go and criticize worthless comics like Fred Basset
This again? We get a week of Thanksgiving (expected), a week of random “oh yeah, I need to put Crankshaft in there” and now we’re back to this mook from Funky Winkerbean and that stupid Montoni’s? This is CRANKSHAFT! Stop it with the junk that got Winkerbean cancelled!
Over 50 years ago, there was a small Pizza chain on my paper route. I really liked their Pizza.
They were the First one I ever saw that offered Pizza by the Slice. Also, they baked them on Square Pans because they fit better into the ovens.
The chain eventually grew to around 25 locations, then, over the years, began shrinking as the franchise holders got older and discovered their kids didnt want to inherit a Pizza business.
I was recently surprised to discover that One Location IS still in business and, apparently Thriving. And, owned by the same family. It was the Original location and has managed to grow by acquiring a couple neighboring properties to expand onto.
They also expanded the Menu to offer almost anything a College Student might enjoy eating, which, I suspect, is how they stayed in business for over 50 years and continue to thrive.

“After all, all the girls in high school said they were excited when I asked them out, and then they threw up!”
God forbid Min-dull express her true opinion on a risky financial venture to Mopey, and risk losing such a prime hunk of marriage material.
Tree seems to have grown a couple of feet by the last panel, doesn’t it?

No, it’s probably the thought of Montoni’s pizzas that makes you throw up.

“Hooray, it’s more Mopey Pete!” said no one ever.
I actually feel like throwing up after typing that statement in quotes, and it is most definitely not because I’m excited.

As I said yesterday, snow will be featured in exterior shots in Crankshaft until April. Must be that Ohio “lake effect” snow I’ve read about.
