How many places is Tom going to set this same sequence (notice I did not say “joke”)? So far, he’s done it at the bank and the grocery store. Am I missing any others?
Sometimes, a machine is effective for a purpose. In this particular circumstance, it’s ridiculous and self-defeating: the patient begins his/her visit to the doctor as impersonaly as can be. This sets up a poor mood for the patient/doctor “encounter”.
Well well, guess who encountered “complete the paperwork on a digital terminal instead of on paper” at the Doctor’s office for the first time one year ago today?
After examining Lillian, the doctor staggers from the back offices into the reception area, visibly shaken.
Doctor:I have no idea what manner of creature I just examined. The hordes of hell walk the earth. Cancel the rest of my appointments. I’m taking the rest of the day off to reexamine my life choices.
This is the wave of the future and SO discriminatory against the elderly. Some don’t even have smart phones, so asking them to work the kiosk will be confusing, slow and disheartening. At least my doctor provides both options!

“Well, I never! Since when have I had anything to do with being human?”

Umm, that’s Lillian the Lizard you’re talking to, lady. “Human-to-human” wouldn’t even come close.

Oh, we are also requiring two step verification that you are a human.

You’d have to have “humans” running the company, for a start.

How many times a day does some ‘human’ have to explain how to sign in?

Then you don’t have patient to doctor anymore, either.

What does it say about a society whose members would rather interact with a machine than talk to another human being?

They did this at my local KFC. No more ordering with at the front counter – you have to figure out the touch screen. It s^cks.

I pre-registered for an appointment I have tomorrow, and I still have to register when I get to the hospital. Grrr…

And, she’s bitter about that because that used to be her Sister’s job.
Plus, she knows that Her Job is likely to be Next.
