Alice: That fence! It beckons to me! Or is it warning me to halt? Beni: It's just an old glove stuck on the fence. Alice: No! It's gesturing to me. It's trying to tell me something. Beni: Maybe it's trying to tell you a knock-knock joke. Alice: Are you mocking the Great Unknown?

Don’t follow it, Alice! Remember what happened to the Pequod!

Mock, mock.

Who’s there?
It’s a left-hand glove - sinister. This suggests that its augury will be cryptic or even deliberately misleading. I only follow instructions from right-hand gloves.

shytimes, I’m not from Oklahoma, but I think I passed through there on my way from Illinois to California.
I mock the Great Unknown with impunity. I’m the first to stand and say to its face, “OK, you’re Unknown, but what’s so GREAT about you?” I have stared into the Abyss, and the Abyss stared back into me, and the Abyss blinked first.

I love it - and today’s comments about the sinister glove. The only reason this would be in my garden would be so the landscapers would reteive a leather glove they left behind…
