Cul de Sac by Richard Thompson for August 12, 2011
Transcript:
Beni: Look, they're digging new houses. Alice: Is that how they get new houses? Dig for them like potatoes? Beni: I don't know. I'll go ask the guy wearing a hat. Alice: Ok. Beni: He patted me on the head and said I'm cute. He...he tousled my hair! Alice: A sure sign of ignorance in an adult. He must now know either.

Poor Beni. It is an ignorant adult indeed who wantonly tousles hair.

I love the literalness of children’s thinking. Sometimes.

the third panel is real deep. Just a small kid contemplating life, looking at a ball, waitin’ for a friend. Most cartoonist’s wouldn’t think to include that panel. Richard Thompson is a genius.

Love this one as well as all the comments. The first experiences od many kids envolve construction projects in their neighborhoods and Richard may show us more as these houses are built (or not-because this was the joke). It took me back to building of a highway in my neighborhood- and walking on the girders high in the air when workers were not there.
