Cul de Sac by Richard Thompson for November 02, 2011
Transcript:
Alice: What was that loud noise a while ago? Beni: Dill's brothers got a bunch of blow-up Halloween yard decorations. They duct-taped them into one big decoration and inflated it with a surplus jet engine. Alice: Darn! I miss all the fun! Beni: No you don't. Here comes some of it now.

I never had a surplus jet engine to play with! Did I have a deprived childhood?Duck and cover!

I used a reverse-Electrolux for “art projects” like Dill’s brothers’. I used duct-tape to rig a variety of nozzles to inflate anything from the tiniest balloons to grandiose inflatables concocted from parachute nylon. Now that I’ve matured, I get my joy from “Cul de Sac” – without the tedious clean-up!

I tried to give my surplus jet engines to my buddies, but for some reason their parents wouldn’t let them have them. And they didn’t work very well for inflating stuff, so I just used natural gas.

I see a witch, a pumpkin, an octupus, a mummy’s arm, maybe King Kong’s arm?, a kind of reptilian foot sticking out from under the pumpkin—and who is that face on the right? could be Frankenstein, but I don’t remember Frank having razor sharp teeth and Dracula has a pointed head, not flat.

My childhood was crummy by comparison.

There used to be a Boeing Surplus Store near where I live, you could get all sorts of neat things there.

I saw an 18 foot inflatable Santa at a store last weekend. Wonder what they’d do with that one.
