Did she think that there was a vampire in his backpack? It’s dead now.

I wonder if anyone already used the excuse, ‘my homework got exploded’ before?

How about “It somehow was dumped in the burn pile!”

An explosion like that would make the news for sure. I’d like to see the on-camera interview.

My oldest son had a lot of assignments “hidden” in his locker at school. Some of it came tumbling out one day between classes, we were told. I asked him if that taught him anything and he said, “To stack things more neatly?”

If Alice flushes ice cubes to make it snow, I guess she flushed a lot of toilet paper to make this happen.

    It’s preventive in this context.

Preventive is an adjective: “I took my car in for preventive maintenance.”

Preventative is a noun: “A vaccine is a preventative given to protect against serious disease.”

Sadly— and I speak as a former editor concerned about language— the line has blurred between the two, and they are treated as synonyms, even in certain online dictionaries.

Now you’ve gone and done it, Viola! Petey Potterpoop will be in Big Trouble with his third-grade teacher for not having his homework (which is snowing down all over Cul de Sac)! And there’s the matter of the hole in his backpack….
