Up until a few month ago, I got a good portion of my comics from the paper. But the paper keeps dropping my faves, so now I get everything online.

We can only hope that will continue—as well as web-based comics like GoComics.

These little clues to the age of this strip just go to remind me how timeless it really is.

I’m glad the comic finally started referring to them as “comics!” I kept wondering why it was called “cartoon camp,” when it was about comics and graphic novels?!?

Maybe this discussion already happened, I haven’t checked. If so, nevermind

I wonder if that girl is in the same family as that cyclops guy (forgot his name) that was in the Retail comic. Donnie?

Bought all my comics at drug stores, except there was a paperback bookstore that sold comics AND certain MAGAZINES. Sometimes my buddy and I would take turns distracting the clerk so the other could take a quick peek inside the MAGAZINES!

They must really charge a lot of money to be able to keep the lights on with only 3 campers!

kids have grown up today with all kinds of techology but there is nothing that compares to a newspaper with a comic section that you purchased at your corner drug store. those were the days!

Cartoon Art Museum is having its annual Cartoon/Comics Camps online this year. https://www.cartoonart.orgWhen we lived in San Francisco this was my second home. Great place. Worth joining.

Being as I am older than the average hill, I remember when there was a neighborhood candy/magazine & comic book shop—just a small place, really, but heaven for a kid with a dime or two to buy his favorite comic book or two! This was back when small neighborhood shops were the principal focus of shopping—the bakery, the butcher shop, the hardware store, the cobbler/shoe repair shop, small grocery stores, the drug store, the dime store (a.k.a. five-and-dime, either Woolworth’s or Kresge), a couple of cinemas (of course we didn’t use such a pretentious term; they were simply called “movies”). Etc.

Anyway, Dan’s Cartoon Camp seems to have a pretty good plan, and the kids all seem interested, each in his or her own way. Congratulations, Mr. Spinnerack!

I didn’t buy those—spent my money on sugar—that’s still my drug of choice, about the cheapest there is. Even a fancy-brand chocolate bar costs less than alcohol/tobacco/prescriptions. And anything you want to read is free via your local library.
