A little girl was riding in the cart and singing. “You’re so noisy!” her mom complained.

Did old lady hats still have veils in 2011, when this cartoon was written? Seems like something from the ’40s and ’50s.

My oldest was that way. My poor wife had to hold onto his legs while he was sitting in the “child seat” section of the carts. And – everybody in the store knew he was present!

Oh I remember this one! Loved it then and now I am that old lady!

I swear that is my child. She’s grown now, but I still remember all the questions, comments, and attitude. I kind of miss it. This must be really old. I don’t think I have seen a pickle barrel in many, many years.

OK, what’s that veil on her head for?

I looked it up and found that veils were used on hats for various reasons, but the kind of veil in this picture looks like the kind women used to wear during periods of mourning.

She wants to put her hand in the pickle barrel. Man, I’m not sure, but I think I saw one of those once long ago. Has anyone seen a real self-serve pickle barrel in the past decade?
