Actually a teenaged foster cousin made all clear to me when I was 7, and my father saw to it that I fully understood what “becoming a woman” meant when I was 12, so I completely skipped the birds and bees stuff.
My parents had a book they had lying out that I glommed onto when they were gone (pictures and everything). In hindsight, I think it was there for me to find. We never did have the talk. I have been carrying on affairs with birds and bees ever since.
We walked into my aunts and uncles (we all lived in the country and no one locked doors) and found them in the living room on the couch. I could never sit on it in subsequent visits. I was six and know now they were pretty advanced from what I saw.

My mother was too embarrassed = just handed me a book (when I was 12 or 13 – so I already knew and had experience).
