Both. I bought a house with my boyfriend free and clear. The relationship went south now I rent. We are currently dating again and moving towards marriage. I will not move again unless we get married.
Generally, when it comes to large assets that appreciate, such as a house, it is far better to buy. A car, on the other hand, because it loses value as you are leaving the dealer’s lot is usually better to rent (lease)..Unfortunately, since housing took a series dump a few years ago, the rent concept is a better option for many..For me, buying homes has been the only option…
Rented when we first married, Creepy landlord, tried to hit on me when I was pregnant! Moved into a cute little rental house before the baby was born. This house had big rats in the attic and this landlord got mad when we called the health dept!. Bought our first house when the baby was tiny and never rented again. Bought this house 4 years ago and this is the last house, (I swear)! 8 moves in 52 years isn’t too bad.

We rent right now. If I was given the choice, we would buy a condo. No yard work.
