Not all Chicago places have that attitude. We knew a few good places when we lived there. Unfortunately, too many waitstaff did have such attitudes (and service)—but then, so did many in New York, and other larger cities.

@ Stephen Gilberg, my parents once had that experience in Switzerland. They ordered what they thought (and the prices seemed to corroborate) was a salad, soup and main course. They got—three good-sized dinners!

The closest I come to French cuisine is when I have fries with my burger, and that suits me fine.

When my family went to France, we had an outrageously underpriced feast. Twice the price would have been reasonable.
