So a nun got naked to clean all the pews in the church to keep her habit clean when a knock comes at the door. She asked “who is it” and an answer of “It’s the blind guy” bellowed in reply. Feeling safe that her immodesty would not be discovered, she opened the door. He replied, “Nice rack Sister! I’m here to install the blinds”
When I was doing an Irish music course 20 years ago I met a guy whose aunt was raped at 16 and got pregnant. This was in the early sixties and being pregnant at that age meant she was shunned from her family and sent to the Magdalene Laundries that was run by nuns who gave new meaning to the words cruel and sadistic. There she had to work 7 days a week about 12 hours a day and was given very little to eat and forced to sleep on a metal and wire bed and the thinnest of mattresses all the while she was pregnant. When she gave birth the baby was taken away from her straight away and she wasn’t even allowed to see it. The nuns who ran the place wouldn’t even tell her if she had had a boy or a girl. The baby was adopted by an American couple who were told, quite wrongfully that she had given consent for them to adopt the baby. She was forced back to work the following day. She, along with all the other girls were treated the same way. They were severely beaten regularly for getting the slightest thing wrong and not obeying the nuns the way the nuns thought they should. She only got out when her brother found out where she was and came to collect her. By then she was 18 years old and barley weighed 70lbs. Thankfully she got better, moved to England and got into nursing and retired after working 40 years in the NHS. She never did find out happened to her little baby.
