I think Carlo is saying that it is an interesting story so far, not that it just stopped being interesting which seems to be how you are reading his ambiguous statement.
Saying it was interesting until now implies that he meant it went downhill, typical of something another Still great poster would say.
I haven’t put this story on my website yet, but I think this is a transition point and I’m tentatively calling it Act 2. Almost everything up to this point was set-up. We’ve been re-introduced to the Nitrates. We’ve met their new employer, Public Domain, who told us what the scam involves. Lastly, we met “the mark” and we can see how enthusiastic she is about the whole idea.
With today’s strip, the actual scam is proceeding with the production of the “artifact.”
Dad update- He’s still fighting, was pretty bad today, thought he was losing the battle to pneumonia, but another doctor came on this evening and said his IV flow rate was way too high. Turned it way down and administered more diuretics, by the time I said goodnight, he woke up and responded.
They’d better hope that Vitamin Flintheart isn’t in the audition line (he strikes me as the kind of fellow who’d see the chance to play Lincoln and try to convince the director that a baritone can play a tenor.
That “new look” isn’t much different from the old one, other than darkening the hair. He’s still purely show business, not the least bit scholarly. If he’s supposed to be an authority on historical artifacts and antique recording machinery, then the robe, cravat, shades, and upturned cigarette are the wrong way to go about it.
Off topic: Dethany from “On the Fastrack” (remember her?) has been doing cosplay at a comics convention (sound familiar?) and today has a crossover with the character Gwen from “Intelligent Life” in both their respective strips.
Bea Thorndike’s alcoholic daughter Debby was married to Jacques, the brother of B.B. Eyes (the marriage was later proven to be a scam by Jacques and not legal). Jacques was killed by Tracy in a gunfight prompting B.B. Eyes to kidnap Tracy and Debby and attempt to kill them by exploding the boiler in the house where they were trapped.
Mrs. Thorndike’s appearance in this story and her previous connection to B.B. Eyes along with B.B. Eyes connection to the Bribery empire could foreshadow the return of Mr. Bribery. If that does not happen in this story, I would still look for some of the clues Mike drops that might indicate future events. Mike often weaves his plots together and often the clues he drops do not display their true meaning until months later.
Of course, my speculations may not happen at all. I just find it interesting that Bea Thorndike, of all people, should turn out to be the mark in Public Domain’s scheme.
“…and often the clues he drops do not display their true meaning until months later.” I wonder if Mike is a fan of Twin Peaks (except it would be decades in David Lynch’s case LOL).
Silver is (portraying) a casting director/agent to find a voice actor to play Lincoln in a script that will never be produced, but will generate recordings usable in the Thorndike Scam?! It does seem to me to be an over-elaborate plan, but if Public Domain wants to do it this way, the Nitrates will play their parts well, I’m sure….

Hi, all:

Let’s keep prayin’ him through, guys! (And gals.)
Now back to the story already in progress….

Why do they need to audition voices for Lincoln? Just about anybody could be Lincoln, who’s going to know the difference?
