Joy is closer to measuring Burl’s bustline than his waist…

    Good Morning All!

Burl no longer lives in Teenage Waistland.

Complicated logic there — um…. let’s see….. His waist has gotten so small his pants won’t stay up, so they fall down around his hips, and…. everybody knows waistbands are cut smaller than your hip measurement…..

    Or something.

“Waste Management” — ie “Human Garbage Disposal.”

BTW are they staying in a motel, or does Verla walk into their house unannounced, and come looking in the bedroom when she can’t find them?

A liiiittle too close, for my taste.

Apparently his waist is getting smaller? I can tell you what is getting smaller, and it isn’t his waist! But since this is a “family” spot, and Susan is well, delicate, I won’t. Of course, he could be mining recent political history and be re-defining terms—“It depends on what waist is.”

BTW, Susan, not to worry about Verla walking in on something she shouldn’t, the most exciting thing that happens in their bedroom is an afternoon delight of vanilla ice cream.

So many people said things here yesterday that I wanted to answer, but I couldn’t get back in time.

    Hmmmm…. I still can’t go back in time……

I don’t want to take up too much of today’s forum with yesterday…. but briefly…

Good eyes, ElGuapo, and yes, we had names for a few people, and a few other people we just wanted to forget.

But by and large, selling chocolate is a happy business…. emphasis on the “large” though, I guess …. :)

Raspberryice, I keep meaning to say I did read that comment, and thanks.

RayC and Purplesky — yes, finials come and go with discomforting irregularity….

The other day, I posited that the Penny’s use them for nefarious purposes.

And Leaky…. about your restaurant tale….You say “it was all done innocently.”

I’d say it was all done "innocently "… they knew i@&¿! well.

I have a similar situation, only it really is innocent — a very elderly relative who kindly offers to “take” me to the movies, cos she knows I don’t go often.

She’ll buy me a $5 senior matinee ticket — all I have to do is drive the 30 miles each way to her house, then drive us both 5 miles each way to the theater, almost 4 gallons of gas in my 14 year old car…. and I usually stay overnight.

A 24 hour, $15 movie, but it’s “free,” so I say thank you.

A waist is a terrible thing to mind. And Burl doesn’t mind having a large waist line at all.

It’s a conundrum. With a big pot, some men pull the pants over the pot and the belt goes under the armpits. Others fasten them under the pot, and they tend to slide down even further. Meanwhile, the butt shrinks because the glutes waste (no pun intended) away from disuse. Add a pair of tube socks and large white shoes with Velcro fasteners, and you have the Florida senior citizen. (Burl appears to be an under-the-pot, shrunken glutes guy, so his pants are too big now.

At least women can look fashionable in an “empire waist”. There is nothing similar for men.

Burl is managing waste by consuming it to the detriment of any waist line, and that 7 looks more like a 1.

Hi Susan and fellow Dinette Setters,

Thanks for the email.Yes, it’s been a busy time with all of the changes.

I have had to make changes re: size of TDS panels, size of typeface…scrunched a little now.

    My work:

I have over 8000 comics, going back to 1997 and even further back, the genesis of TDS: Suburban Torture. I use a standard bunch of Penny scenes which I use regulary and of course new ones. most are the standard Penny rat wheel on which Burl and Joy exercise daily! I use several standard scenes for many of The Penny’s stomping grounds: ie: Kitchen, Living room , ,bedrooms outdoor scenes, doctor’s office, Burl’s u-stor-it, restaurants, car scenes, store scenes, etc. I used to redraw each comic scene of the Penny’ haunts but now we are accustomed to wear we can expect to run into The Pennys. I use the ‘scenes’ that pertain to the subject matter of the day.I just write new dialogue in these Penny scenes.

I do run some classics, reruns from the old days from when I was only in 20 newspapers. Back then many comics readers did not ever see TDS. 20 papers wasn’t much of an audience.I really want readers to see what they missed. Now readers can view TDS streaming on the internet, every day to thousands. I want my audience to see some of what they missed many years ago when only a handful of newspapers carried TDS.

I appreciate you and others who follow TDS and discuss their lives, foibles and irrational selfish behavior!

I will check with my syndicate re: image quality resolution. I will try to be more legible ; ) when cleaning up my comics before production and less background stuff in the panels.

I’ll Let you know the skinny with the resolution quality.Thank you and thanks to the readers who discuss TDS.

    Best Wishes,

    Julie Larson

Thanks again Julie, for answering my e-mail, if you see this.

So nice of you — and thanks for posting it here, as well, before I could make it back to do it.

Hope you don’t remove TOO much detail — we love it all. :)

    Hello again, all —

I also e-mailed Julie to thank her…. that was great.

Guess we can hold off on writing GoComics until she needs us.

Meanwhile — also glad you’re not leaving, GymShoe,

Had I arrived here before Julie’s post and your reply, I was going to ask why you’d go, anyway, before the situation was resolved.

We never know what will happen on this site, as glitches come and go constantly.

Also, even if the comic were peewee here, if I had somewhere else to read it, so I had something to say about it, I’d still come back here to talk to everybody.

I can read comics on other sites and occasionally even in the newspaper, but I can’t find our little Crustwood “family” anywhere else, or the jokes and discussions that so enhance my enjoyment of other strips as well.
