Good morning to all. Marg, are you still on the lam? Are you using a “burner” IPA?
Ol’ Burl just can’t resist making sure we all know he paid for the parts. And the cheap mug; probably Dollar Tree, or it could be from something left behind in a storage unit. I have always suspected that Burl goes thru units checking for things that might be left behind.
And I meant to say thanks for the updates yesterday, to those who answered.
GymShoe! I thought Illinois still closed at 9pm, like it did when I was a teenager. You mean, the electricity runs all night these days?
When I was a college freshman in the Midwest, dinner and a movie meant he picked you up (on his dinosaur, yes, thanks) at 5, you ate at 5:30 or 6, and caught the 7pm show.
Came out to California sophomore year and was shocked by 7pm dinner and 9pm movies — but by now I often eat at 9.
Out here people say “5 in the afternoon.”
@Dave — will be looking for your work — and yeah, I’m a chatterbox too….. just in case there’s one person on this site who can’t tell.
I still owe you a story…
And ElGuapo – I figured out you only post “sometimes” – but always nice when you do.
No computer at home ??
I don’t know whether my unrestrained gasp is disbelief, dismay, or admiration.
Great bunch of comments and I prefer my own cooking unless I eat somewhere I really like (and only chain would be Outback which serves good veggie portions and decent filet or prime rib). I love a good Indie place and had a great Veal Salimboca at one that was very hard to find while out with daughter and her 2 kids. I will recommend it when I find it again. I never take favors unless I can find a way to repay them adequately (just a matter of pride).

Burl has more crust than a loaf of bread. He probably expected the neighbor to pay for the parts also. But, to the Penny’s the mug evens thing out.

Nothing like a cheap mug to pay your automotive bills…
The Pennys have more than paid their debt…

G’morning Crustwood!
Yeah, it was really nice of them, wasn’t it?
I mean, after he made them pay for those expensive parts themselves, it’s not like they really had to give him anything.
But heck, they stocked up on those mugs at the Dollar Tree last fall, and they’re starting to run out of people to give them to……
cos, you know….. not too many people have been doing them favors lately…..
or acting like real friends….
the kind who invite you to dinner and stuff….

Mikie -
Yeah, I forgot he could get stuff at work.
It’s his job as manager to hold the unclaimed goods auctions for abandoned units.
Now, let’s define “unclaimed”, shall we?
If Burl takes it home before anyone sees it, it’s been claimed, hasn’t it?
They probably don’t want a lot of second-hand personal stuff, but it’s pretty useful at Christmas time.
And a good way to get large decorative items you can’t find at Big Lots or the dollar store — like maybe those big pictures of trees and clowns.

“Priceless” means something different to the Pennys than to most people.

It’s the thought that counts, right? Good thing they didn’t buy him skates, because nobody likes a pair of cheap skates.

GymShoe — don’t think you have the only seat on the senior train!
When I eat out it’s the same — gotta make it on time for those senior specials if I can.
Now that I’ve reached discount age, I can go to a movie now and then, too — though I still don’t do it often.
But eating at home or at some friend’s houses, that’s when dinner is at 8… or 9…. or 10.
California style.
And I have problems sleeping early, so I’m usually up till all hours and then NOT up till way later than I’d prefer the next day.
I’m working on that.
Meanwhile, that’s why I get here so “early” — because it’s actually late…..
and don’t get back to answer people till it’s evening in their time zones, and they miss it. :(

Oh — and he fixed the tranny twice because Joy thinks she can drive a stick.
And she tries…. even though it’s an automatic.
And Eric — funny.
