I do this occasionally to Miss Jenny, and believe me I suffer for it! The last person Burl wants to see is Verl. Well, perhaps the absolute last person is Ma, but anyway. Verl comes over and they have to share their meal, and therein lies the problem. Trust me on this, Verl does this a lot. She knows when dinner is ready at the Penny house.
My husband does this to me, he’ll be talking to somebody and he’ll say, just a minute and hand the phone to me. And I definitely do not want to talk to whomever is on the phone and he knows it! And then I have to say “Hi! how are you” while shooting daggers at him and he is smiling at me.
If I were Burl that is what I would be doing, but I think Julie is trying for the neck cut off sign, just cut Verl off, no dinner no talk. Just get rid of her. It seems amazing that Joy is so unaware of Burl’s distain for her family.
