My ex-husband would NEVER use seat belts. He also expected me to not use them. He said that you would get killed if getting hit from the side. Never mind that you would go flying into the windshield if hit from the back. He was a very safe driver, but even safe drivers get into accidents. However, as soon as we divorced, I started using seat belts and have felt much safer since then.
I’ve always worn seat belts, when I was in college in the 70’s I use to get looks from the drivers when I’d get in and buckle up, then I came up with the perfect response, “I trust your driving, it’s the other guy I don’t trust.” That seemed to satisfy the drivers and they stopped glaring at me.
