You can tell he’s a fraud. Liking children is not a requirement for a children’s book author. Dr. Seuss, in fact, was afraid of them. Margaret Wise Brown didn’t have much use for kids, either. And while she wrote cute bunny stories, she enjoyed hunting wabbits. Shel Silverstein had to be goaded into writing for children and disliked the genre.
But they do say children’s authors are often childlike themselves. But I’m not sure being immature and that discredited “r” word that describes the Penny’s qualifies.
