Amusingly, this assumption IS theoretically possible, that aliens visited during the time of the dinosaurs, found the planet either not of interest or not otherwise ideal for them to be on, and left and haven’t gotten around to coming back because of either the lengthy travel time, or they just assumed life is still dino-dominate on Earth now and there was no motivation to.
That could be true. It could also be that before they left, the aliens arranged for an asteroid to strike the Earth and kill off all large land animals.
