Mark: ...And now a round-up of gains made by blacks during the first half of the Reagan administration! Um.....I hate to cut into the music, kids. But it's time to get serious again with another "Profile on parade"....In a recent poll of nearly 2,000 black Americans, only one respondent would admit to supporting Ronald Reagan and the republican party, he's Emory college student Ralph Kinney, and he's here with us today. Ralph, how's it feel to be the only black in the survey who supports Ronald Reagan? Ralph: A little embarassing, I guess. I was sure there'd be a couple of others. But given this administration's unprecedented attempts to undermine past civil rights gains, how do you explain your support? Ralph: Well, I was sort of forced into it.... Mark: Forced? How so? Ralph: Well, I was a pledge at Duke. During hell week some of the brothers drove me down to the local republican headquarters and made me register. Actually, it was pretty funny. Mark: So you joined the G.O.P. as a college frank? Ralph: Right. I tried to get out of it, but the guys kept paddling me.
