Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for November 16, 2008
Transcript:
Man: Got a moment, young dude? Zipper: For you, Big Paul? Man: Yes. Zipper: Um... actually, I'm a little busy. Man: So the dean asked me to talk to you again, Zip. Zipper: Not necessary, dawg... I finally figured out what I want to do with my life - public service! The past year has totally inspired me to reach out to the forgotten Joes... Joe Six-pack, Joe Beer Ball and Joe Kegger - you know, the ordinary dude, whether he be a guy dude or a chick dude! You don't need elitist, insider "knowledge" to lead - you just need to be average and Main Streety! Man: And that's why you stopped going to classes? Zipper: Yup. I'm preparing myself! Focusing like a laser, actually!

Back in the day certain schools had open enrollment, but now, tuition is astronomical, and so who’s paying for Zip’s college…THE TAXPAYER!
I don’t understand, please explain.

If the taxpayers are footing the bill for slacker students I’m going back to college.

I guess open enrollment is way past my time. Everyone in my family paid for college. I thought that Waldon was a private collge.
