Soldier: Okay, so this is my latest fantasy. I hook up with this amazing captain... eventually, we're booted for fraternization, so we move to a Sausalito houseboat, launch a gay fashion line, and then take it public! Melissa: That's your fantasy? Soldier: Pretty great, huh? Melissa: But what about your Army career? Soldier: I'm a millionaire. I get over it.

Sausalito? I recommend the East Village.

The houseboat would have to be anchored at Tiburon, Angel Island, or Alcatraz. Donāt know about the East River.

Donāt start a new East Coast/West Coast feud, guys ā¦

Sheās a mechanic who canāt keep her own hair in 35-10 and she wants to start a fashion line? The āWTFā meter just peggedā¦ Iām having Tank Girl āLiquid Silverā flashbacks.
Sandfan over 13 years ago
Sounds like a win-win. Sausalito gains a high net worth individual and the Army loses a substandard soldier.

I like Half Noon Bay

Army Regulation 67-1, para 1-8c(3)(a) (for female hair) states: Hair will not fall over the eyebrows or extend below the bottom edge of the collar at any time during normal activity or when standing in formation. Long hair that falls naturally below the bottom edge of the collar, to include braids, will be neatly and inconspicuously fastened or pinned, so no free-hanging hair is visible. This includes styles worn with the physical fitness uniform/improved physical fitness uniform (PFU/IPFU).
So she canāt be bothered to comply with standards, and her supervisor isnāt calling her on it. Pffft.

@ randgrthr, sandfan, and MajArkay,Maybe she is a substandard soldier but a fine mechanic which is why her supervisor overlooks her hair.

LOVE the 79th St. Marina ā¦ the whole West Side between 59th and and 110th. Especially like anywhere in the 70s between the park and the Hudson.

If Roz is planning to tap the Bay Area gay market for her million-dollar business, she and her partner will have to explore other sites than the Golden Gate with its park and bridge. They could move their houseboat to the north end of the bay near Vallejo, a city that has gone bankrupt: no police, no garbage collection. Only Vallejoās pensioners (who collect just 40% of what theyāre due) would be able to sample Rozās new line.

Donāt gay people wear more or less the same things straight people wear? This question is coming from someone who does most of his shopping at Eddie Bauer and Target.

Come to Sausalito. The weatherās nicer. Why deal with NYC winters, especially in a houseboat?
āDonāt gay people wear more or less the same things straight people wear?ā
More or less. Sometimes much more, sometimes much less. Google the Castro Street Fair. Also, thereās a good market for Gay/Lesbian specialty clothes, like tee shirts reading āIām not a lesbian, but my girlfriend is.ā
By the way, itās Fleet Week in San Francisco, and with the end of DADT I wonder whether the bars in certain neighborhoods will do significatly better business than in years past. Iād imagine that no uniformed man on Castro or uniformed woman on Valencia will have to pay for a drink all weekend.
Also by the way, Wednesday night is Karaoke Night at my favorite Irish pub, and this week a bunch of uniformed Marines came in and spent some quality time, but I couldnāt talk ANY of them into going onstage and doing a song. It wasnāt against regulations or anything, they just didnāt have the nerve, even when I suggested that the honor of the Corps was at stake. I mean, these guys arenāt afraid to charge headlong into machinegun fire, but the thought of belting out āDonāt Stop Believingā in front of a bunch of friendly drunks gives them butterflies in the stomach? Sigh.

Maj: When I got back from āNam, my top insisted I had to āloseā my mustache. I pointed out it was regulation, and he was jealous because I had more hair in the āstach then he had on his head. I kept it. Itās part of the reason I find the āhigh and whiteā cuts of the jarheads āstrangeā. When my son was traveling the world wit the SEAL teams, theyād get used to beards and long hair, and coming back stateside, the āregularsā would get bent. No real problem with her short ponytail, unless it gets long enough to get caught in a tail rotor or transmission drive shaft, etc.
Gottaā have a pretty good sized houseboat to run a fashion business, unless of course, just doing the design from there. She could locate in North Beach.

House Boats agree, Sausalito is the place to be. Same thing for the Fleet and CVN-70, the Bin Laden Carrier.

First Steven Jobs and now Al Davis, the Bay Area will never stop mourning. Must have been Davisās Brooklyn back ground that defined him. Too bad he didnāt grow up like DiMaggio, a play ground legend in North Beach.

I tended to be a bit of a dufflebag myself when I was inā¦ almost got ECD Airman of the Quarter once, but couldnāt do an about face in high heels, LOL!!! And they were always yelling at me for wearing BDUs instead of dress blues. So Iām not throwing stones at Roz for her military bearing or lack thereof, but to see it in someone who says she wants to start a fashion line isā¦. bizzare, at best. Women who affect the dufflebag look in the military are usually trying to get away from some form of sexual harassment. They donāt want to look good in the uniform. Guys wonāt make as many wisecracks (or worse) and that way they can focus on getting the job done.
I also think the hair regs for women are incredibly stupid and unrealistic given that for the bulk of the existence of the US Military, women were not allowed in combat. If you need to have hair short or up to prevent it from being in the way in a combat situation, enforce that regulation on combat troops only, or STFU.
