No wonder she’s insecure. Alex’s nose sure bothers me! Always has. In fact, now that it’s mentioned, most all of the noses in Doonesbury…

Alex is not turning into her mother. Her mother is flaky and flighty and irresponsible. Alex is merely insecure and, filled with the same hormones that hit my wife when she was pregnant, has that insecurity magnified. It can make some women pretty snippy. But that’s different from JJ.

Toggle could have a PTSD moment at work, the singer could comfort him, they could have a wild fling in the recording studio, Alex could walk in on them…but then, this is a cartoon – not real life.

That desk chair sprouted an armrest between the first and fourth panels…

It is an artisanal comic strip, hence a few in consistencies.

Hear! Hear! If this strip bears any resemblance to the reality, and a lot of the comments here from both women and men seem to indicate that it does, boy did I dodge a bullet.

I think the armrest on the chair may be intentional. GT made both of their noses more prominent than usual, especially Toggle’s in the last panel. Then he had an idea: he gave the chair a nose as well. Just to subliminally drive the point home. He might have even done it without thinking about it. He’s been at the craft of symbolic imagery for a long long time….

That nose makes them look like they are all related to Jughead.

Is this comic old enough to be about the time of B. S.? A lot of people made comments like this about her.

Alex, you’re in no position to complain about anybody’s nose.

Just a few weeks ago, GT explained the phenomena of the artisanal comic strip, the way that those strips do have inconsistencies, and the fact that Doonesbury is an artisanal strip.

People don’t mind Lady Gaga nose.

The reason Alex puts her focus on the nose is because she is insecure about her own nose. What you hate most about yourself is what you hate to see in others. Looking in the mirror bothers you.

Nothing. It’s because of the Sequester. They had to make cutbacks.
